Border Patrol releases illegal immigrant who was previously caught and charged with raping a 13-year-old girl in NYC.
In 2022, a judge ordered the deportation of Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, but the deportation never occurred.
ICE confirmed to Planet Chronicle that an Ecuadorean illegal immigrant who was charged with raping a 13-year-old girl in New York City was caught by Border Patrol in Eagle Pass, Texas, in June 2021, but was later released into the U.S. with a future court date.
An immigration judge ordered Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, 25, to be deported in February 2022, but he never was.
ICE's nondetained docket, which currently has 7.4 million cases, has put each ICE officer in charge of managing an average of 7,000 cases.
On June 18, the New York City Police Department arrested Inga-Landi as a suspect for the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Queens. Additionally, he is facing several other charges.
After receiving numerous tips about Inga-Landi's location, police identified him as the main suspect using surveillance video from the area.
In the early morning hours Tuesday, a group of neighbors recognized him from a wanted poster and held him down until police arrived to arrest him.
On that day, an immigration detainer was lodged against his release by Enforcement and Removal Operations in New York City.
Inga-Landi was not a stranger to law enforcement.
The individual had multiple minor offenses, including jumping subway fares and public drinking. Police stated that he was also involved in a domestic violence incident without any charges being filed, and he had an unspecified arrest in Texas.
