Boise trial for Idaho murders suspect Bryan Kohberger is imminent.
Bryan Kohberger arrives in Boise, Idaho for his change of venue murder trial.
On Sunday, Bryan Kohberger, the individual accused of murdering four University of Idaho students, was relocated from rural Latah County to Ada County in preparation for his upcoming trial.
Boise, where Kohberger's new murder trial will take place, is approximately 300 miles away from the crime scene. Kohberger was observed arriving in Boise on a small plane and being transported to a black SUV while wearing an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs.
Kohberger is currently in the custody of the Ada County Sheriff's Office, according to online jail records, after being held in a jail in Moscow, Idaho, since January 2023.
Earlier this month, Latah County District Judge John granted the defense's request for a change of venue, citing several factors that he believed collectively favored moving the trial to a larger courthouse, further away from the crime scene.
On that date, Kohberger was accused of entering an off-campus rental home at 4 a.m. and fatally stabbing Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, all of whom were 20 or 21 years old.
Kohberger was arrested six weeks after the killings at his parents' home in Pennsylvania, where he was spending winter break.
According to authorities, cellphone data and surveillance video reveal that Kohberger visited the victims' neighborhood multiple times before the killings, traveled in the area that night, and returned to Pullman, Washington, via a roundabout route. Additionally, his DNA was discovered at the crime scene.
In a court filing, his lawyers stated that he was merely going for a drive that night, which he frequently did for hiking, running, and stargazing.
At Washington State University, Kohberger was a criminology Ph.D. student. He was located just 10 miles away across the state line at the time of the murders. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
