Biden-Harris administration accused of ignoring migrant murder victim's family.
Patty Morin is urging the government to take action against unauthorized immigration following her daughter's murder.
On Aug. 5, 2023, Rachel Morin, a 37-year-old mother of five, went for a jog in her sleepy Maryland community and disappeared.
An illegal immigrant from El Salvador, who is also accused of murder and rape in his home country and in Los Angeles, was identified as the suspected killer of a woman whose brutalized remains were found stuffed in a culvert after a months-long investigation.
The case of the murder of Morin, a 25-year-old American woman, drew national attention even before the suspect was identified as a migrant from El Salvador. Afterward, former President Trump offered his condolences to the family and invited Morin's mother and other victims' relatives to the southern border.
The House Judiciary Committee invited the same families to testify on Capitol Hill.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York, the top-ranked Democrat on the panel, was seen nodding off during the hearing, causing discomfort among the audience. Over a year since the murder, neither President Biden nor Vice President Harris has reached out to the family, according to Patty Morin, who spoke to Planet Chronicle Digital.
"Cathie Groenewold, Morin's church friend who took the picture, stated that the photo revealed the attitude of the entire Democratic Party. They believed the photo was being used as a stunt by either the Democrats or Republicans, but the women were highlighting a serious issue."
Patty Morin stated that she went to the Capitol to urge lawmakers to take the border crisis more seriously. Had routine procedures been followed, such as taking a DNA swab and a photo of Martinez-Hernandez when he was stopped at the border, her daughter would still be alive.
An arrest warrant for Interpol was already in place due to his connection to another woman's death.
"Some of you may be uninterested in this topic because you view it as a partisan issue, but these are American citizens," Morin stated to lawmakers during the hearing. "We must secure our borders. The individuals entering our country illegally are doing so to conceal something."
Through the legal process, migrants undergo vetting to safeguard themselves and the American public.
"She continued, "I just left the southern border. When I spoke to Border Patrol, they showed me their gunshot wounds. They told me their stories about how they suffered broken necks, broken backs, fractured skulls. It's a war zone there, and we need to close it. We need to put those policies back into place that kept our citizens safe.""
To convince lawmakers of the need to address violence against women, she publicly disclosed for the first time that she had survived a kidnapping as a child.
"My daughter's horrors were worse than what I experienced as a teenager due to criminally insane individuals, and it's all because of open borders," she told lawmakers.
Even after the morticians tried to make her up for the funeral, the daughter was unrecognizable due to the severe brutality she had endured.
"He stated, "From a victim's perspective, I wanted them to understand that I, in a small way, comprehended the struggles my daughter faced and the significance of speaking up and advocating for her and all the women who lack a voice in America. I was frustrated by the way they dismiss immigration as insignificant while women are being attacked daily.""
Morin accused Nadler of falling asleep during the hearing and felt slighted by Swalwell's demeanor, she said. Few Democrats asked the witnesses questions, she added.
"I want everyone to truly hear and understand our voices, including members of Congress, senators, and presidents. However, it is challenging to convey the message to them because they already have a preconceived notion that immigration is a political issue, and one must be either for or against it. I believe that Americans are not against immigration when it is done correctly."
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
