Biden administration officials dismiss drone sightings concerns: 'Mere exaggeration'
While officials downplayed concerns, they admitted that the drones are still under investigation.
In a recent call with reporters, U.S. national security officials alleviated concerns about the mysterious drones flying over the Northeast, with one official describing the nationwide uneasiness as "an exaggerated response."
On Saturday, Planet Chronicle Digital received a call from senior Biden administration officials, including representatives from the FBI, FAA, NSC, DHS, and DOD.
Despite the ongoing investigation into the origins of the drones, the senior officials refused to disclose any information about them. The drones were first sighted flying over northern New Jersey in mid-November and have been observed by thousands of residents in the past few weeks.
Since the first mysterious drone was spotted in the Garden State in November, the FBI has received over 5,000 tips. However, only about 100 of these tips required further investigation, according to an FBI official who spoke during a call with reporters.
Despite the recent increase in drone activity, the FBI official stated that investigators have not discovered any evidence of widespread unmanned drone usage.
"The official stated that they are doing their best to find the source of the drone activities in question, but there may have been an overreaction."
A DHS official concurred with the FBI representative's statement that although not all drone-related tips should be disregarded, the actual drone activity may be lower than what is being reported.
No evidence was found to suggest that the drones were controlled by a foreign actor or had harmful intentions, according to a DOD official.
"The representative stated, "We don't know the operators or points of origin as we haven't been able to locate them.""
The official from the Pentagon stated that there are constraints when it comes to probing the drones' origins.
"The spokesperson stated that we are restricted and prohibited from intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance activities in the homeland, which limits our capabilities and methods for determining points of origin."
On the military side, we are just as frustrated with the irresponsible nature of this activity, the official conceded.
An NSC official agreed with the DOD representative's statement, stating that there is no evidence of foreign involvement in the drones and no proof of any threat to public safety.
"The NSC official stated that they are taking the matter seriously and have not found any evidence of criminal activity, national security threat, public safety threat, or a malicious foreign actor involvement in the drones."
