Aurora, Colorado residents terrorized by Tren de Aragua gang members for months now, see charges brought against the gang members.
In Aurora, Colorado, nine individuals suspected of being members of the Tren de Aragua gang were formally charged.
In December, nine individuals suspected of being members of the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) were charged with home invasion, kidnapping, and robbery in Aurora, Colorado.
This year, the apartment complex received extensive national coverage due to allegations that it had been seized by a Venezuelan gang.
On Monday, the Aurora, Colorado Police Department made nine arrests related to an armed home invasion and kidnapping that resulted in two victims being seriously injured.
The nine suspects were identified as:
- Andres Alexander Liendo-Padilla, 26
- Javier Alexander Alvarado Parada, 24
- Jesus Alberto Alejos Escalona, 22
- Junior Reyes-Barrios, 28
- Barbara Sivle Medina-Arcaya, 29
- Donarkys Teresa Suarez-Quesada, 31
- Luigi Javier Soto-Sucre, 26
- Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta, 20
- Jengrinso Elias Loreto-Petit, 26
The department stated that the suspects are facing charges ranging from second-degree kidnapping to aggravated robbery, first-degree assault, extortion, menacing, and second-degree burglary.
Serpa-Acosta was previously wanted on an active felony warrant for first-degree burglary and menacing with a deadly weapon, police said. His warrant was issued on August 18, 2024, following a security camera capture of Serpa-Acosta and five other armed men knocking on apartment doors at The Edge at Lowry about 10 minutes before a fatal shooting.
The department also stated that they have obtained arrest warrants for three more suspects who are currently not in custody.
On Dec. 17, 2024 at approximately 2:30 a.m., the charges against the suspected gang members were made following a violent incident.
At the Edge at Lowry Apartments in the Denver suburbs, a group of alleged gang members broke into a couple's apartment and violently attacked them, causing injuries that required hospitalization. The assailants also stole jewelry from the victims.
Initially, 19 suspects were arrested for their involvement in the "tortuous" kidnapping.
After being interviewed by investigators, three individuals were released and found not to be involved in the crime, according to police.
ICE was holding 16 remaining suspects.
Seven suspects who have not been charged are currently in ICE custody and are still being investigated, according to police.
"Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain stated at the beginning of the investigation that he would say without question that the activity in question is TdA activity. He also mentioned that some individuals have been identified as members of the TdA gang. He added that the police department is working closely with its partners in HSI and DHS to establish their relationship with gangs."
TdA membership is difficult to confirm for suspects since gang members usually do not openly declare their affiliation.
"It is a challenge to say that someone is a gang member, but when you consider the circumstances, events, individuals, veracity, and violence involved, it is not a big step to conclude that they are TdA gang members," he said.
WATCH:
Chamberlain stated that the TdA members and their associates routinely mistreated the couple and demanded $500 from them every two weeks. He believes that the couple were not the only victims being intimidated and extorted by the gang members.
The investigation into the kidnapping that occurred on December 17, 2024, is still active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Anonymous tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
