During its graduation ceremony, a shooting occurred inside Skyline High School, according to Oakland police.
At a high school graduation ceremony in Oakland, California, two individuals were injured due to gunfire on Thursday night.
At approximately 7:45 p.m. local time, Oakland Police Lt. Robert Trevino stated that officers were dispatched to Skyline High School in response to reports of a shooting occurring inside the school during graduation.
Two adults were discovered with gunshot wounds when police arrived at the school, according to Trevino.
As of late Thursday night, both individuals were reportedly in stable condition after being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
The California Highway Patrol aided Oakland police in searching the school and securing the perimeter.
Trevino stated at a news conference a few hours after the shooting that the school would be "clear and safe" later in the evening.
Trevino stated that our officers are highly professional, which has made us adept at handling critical incidents. As a result, we were able to safely evacuate everyone involved. There were no injuries reported, even though several individuals attempted to exit simultaneously.
Trevino stated that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities are examining allegations of a "dispute" prior to the incident.
He couldn't determine the exact number of shots fired, but stated that there were several.
Trevino stated that the police are attempting to determine the exact number of suspects involved in the shooting, but no descriptions of the suspects or a possible vehicle were available by late Thursday night.
