Once police arrived, the expansive facility was evacuated.
On Monday night, a USPS processing facility in Missouri City, Texas, experienced a tragic incident where a worker was shot dead. A co-worker has been arrested in connection with the shooting, according to local police and the USPS.
At approximately 10 p.m., a shooting occurred at a processing facility located at 611 Highway 90 Alt, prompting the police to be called.
Police found one worker dead inside with gunshot wounds and arrested another employee.
The facility was evacuated and footage from the scene reveals numerous workers outside the facility with a significant police presence.
The details of the incident are unclear, including how it happened and where in the building it occurred.
The identity of both the victim and the suspect has not been released.
An investigation is taking place at the facility, which is about 14 miles southwest of Houston, resulting in the suspension of mail processing.
On Monday, Dana Carter, an inspector from the Houston Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, confirmed that a shooting had occurred outside the facility during a press briefing held late in the day.
""One individual is in custody and the community is safe, as confirmed by Carter to ABC13. However, at this time, there is one victim who has passed away. This is an active investigation, and we will continue to work through the process before notifying next of kin," Carter stated."
He said the incident poses no threat to the public.
The Missouri City Police Department and USPS have not yet responded to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
