As more information comes to light about the Georgia teen school shooting suspect, it is revealed that the individual lived in a succession of rental homes.
The suspect in the Apalachee High School shooting came from an unstable home environment.
A timeline of the 14-year-old Georgia high school student's short-term living arrangements reveals his tumultuous home life.
Two students and two teachers were killed at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, and nine others, including seven who were shot, were injured. Colt Gray, 14, and his father, Colin Gray, 54, are charged with the killings.
In a brief period, the teen experienced an unstable childhood, with at least three rental homes.
Colin Gray, the teen's father, stated in recently released police interrogation transcripts that Colt had been through a lot and wanted a "simple life."
Jefferson, Georgia Homes:
In Jefferson, Georgia, a small town with about 15,000 residents, the Grays resided in two rental properties.
According to court documents obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, the family resided in a single rental property, and the current tenant informed police that the family was evicted in May 2022.
The divorce between Colin and Marcee Gray resulted in the separation of their family of five. Colt resided with his father, while the two younger children initially stayed with their mother.
After their divorce, Colin and Colt Gray resided in a different single-family home in a subdivision within the town.
According to neighbors, the Planet Chronicle Digital family resided in the area for just a "couple of months" before relocating.
In May 2023, after the teen made violent threats to shoot up the middle school, police interviewed Colt and Colin at the Jefferson rental home.
According to Planet Chronicle Digital's review of interview transcripts, Colin Gray stated that his son faced difficulties due to his parents' divorce.
The father stated that his son encountered difficulties at West Jackson Middle School, which is located about 70 miles north of Jefferson, Georgia. However, since the son transferred to Jefferson Middle School, the issues have improved significantly.
In 2023, Investigator Dan Miller interviewed the teen and portrayed them as a victim of bullying, with classmates making fun of them.
"Gray stated that Colt simply wants a straightforward life. Despite being excited about entering 8th grade, Colt found it challenging to attend school without being bullied. The situation went from one issue to another, and Colt was constantly subjected to ridicule. Gray shared that he tried to encourage Colt to join the golf team, but instead, he was mocked daily for being gay and dating someone."
Winder, Georgia Home:
Prior to his arrest following the school massacre on Wednesday, Colin and Colt had resided at a rental property in Winder, Georgia.
In Nov. 2023, Colt's mother went to her ex-husband's truck and vandalized it in a violent rampage, resulting in prison time.
Court documents, reviewed by Planet Chronicle Digital, reveal that Marcee Anne Gray scratched two words into her ex's truck, which was owned by the construction company he worked for, when she arrived at a rental property in Winder, Georgia.
The damages cost approximately $3,000 to fix, court documents said.
After discovering illicit drugs in her vehicle, the mother was charged with multiple offenses.
The warrant for Gray's arrest indicates that he had a jar of methamphetamine, a baggie of fentanyl, another baggie of muscle relaxants, and a glass pipe used for consuming narcotics.
The warrant states that she covered up the identity of her Nissan Rogue car by attaching a tag for a Nissan Kick.
In December 2023, Marcee Gray was charged and pleaded guilty to using a license plate to conceal identity, criminal damage to property in the second degree, and criminal trespass/family violence.
Marcee Gray was charged under Georgia's First Offender Act, which lets defendants plead guilty without being convicted. Under the state's First Offender Act, Gray spent the first 46 days in jail instead of the full 5 years of her sentence.
For the remainder of the sentence, she was on probation.
Gray was prohibited from directly communicating with her husband, Colin Gray, while under probation, as per the documents.

Law enforcement arrived at the scene "within minutes," as stated by GBI director Chris Hosey.
Previously, Hosey stated that law enforcement responded very quickly to the incident.
The teen suspect was swiftly taken into custody by officers after being located.
A 14-year-old is being tried as an adult for four counts of murder. He is accused of using a semiautomatic AR-style rifle to kill two fellow students and two teachers.

"Being a victim in this community isn't limited to physical injury," District Attorney Brad Smith stated on Friday. "Every child in that school was affected."
