On Thursday, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced that a man accused of causing a fatal crash in Arizona in December 2022 has been indicted.

Brian Alexander Torres-Perez, 22, was charged with three counts of manslaughter, a class two felony, for the crash that killed Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb's 22-year-old son, Cooper.

In the crash, Cooper's fiancée, Caroline Patten, and their 11-month-old daughter also perished.

On Dec. 16, 2022, at Elliot Road and Cole Drive in Gilbert, Arizona, Patten, who was driving, made a left turn and was allegedly struck by Torres-Perez's Chevrolet Silverado, according to police.

Nearly a week after the incident, Gilbert police declared that Cooper and his infant daughter had passed away at the scene, while Patten succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

""Torres-Perez's disregard for life resulted in the deaths of an entire family, and it is now time for him to be held accountable for his actions," said Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell."

In February 2023, the Gilbert Police Department submitted the case to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, stating that excessive speed, alcohol, and other drugs were contributing factors to the crash.

According to a report from Gilbert police, Torres-Perez was driving at a speed of approximately 95 mph, which was 25 mph over the speed limit, when he crashed into the family's car. Blood samples collected from Torres-Perez later revealed a blood alcohol content level of .03 and the presence of THC.
