An off-duty Atlanta police officer was stabbed by a Georgia man following a hit-and-run accident, and the suspect is still at large.
An officer was allegedly stabbed multiple times by Justin Perry Hurst, 37, before he fled the scene.
An off-duty Atlanta police officer was stabbed during a confrontation following a hit-and-run incident over the weekend, and authorities are currently searching for the suspect.
On Saturday at approximately 6 p.m. in DeKalb County, Georgia, a hit-and-run accident occurred on Interstate 20 Eastbound near Panola Road.
A driver in a Dodge Charger struck a Chevy Silverado in a crash before leaving the scene, according to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
An off-duty Atlanta police officer, driving a Silverado, followed the driver of a Charger into Rockdale County to obtain the license plate information.
In the parking lot, a verbal confrontation occurred between two drivers, which escalated and led to the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Justin Perry Hurst, allegedly stabbing the officer multiple times.
Hurst fled the scene and has yet to be located.
The Alpharetta area is where he is believed to be armed and dangerous, and his last known vehicle was a white 2019 VW Passat with Georgia tag CWC3082.
The officer was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment and later released, Atlanta police said.
Local law enforcement is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for anyone with information related to this case.
"The Atlanta Police Department is working with the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office to apprehend the suspect in this investigation. Anyone with information about the suspect's location is encouraged to contact CrimeStoppers or the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office."
