An NYC migrant who was accused of committing a knifepoint rape was caught and then released at the border by ICE.
A woman in Coney Island has accused Daniel Davon-Bonilla of rape, and he is now back in custody.
An illegal immigrant from Nicaragua, accused of raping a woman near Coney Island in New York City, was apprehended and released.
An ERO New York City spokesperson confirmed to Planet Chronicle that Daniel Davon-Bonilla, 24, was first encountered in Eagle Pass, Texas, after illegally crossing into the U.S. on Dec. 7, 2022.
Davon-Bonilla was taken into custody by Border Patrol and subsequently handed over to ICE ERO for enrollment in a detention program, with the requirement to report to the ERO Miami Field Office at a later date.
Davon-Bonilla, who was put on hiatus for a "later date," has been living in the U.S. since then and has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement from April 2023 until his most recent interaction in NYC on Sunday.
In April 2023, Davon-Bonilla was arrested by the NYPD for alleged sex crimes and subsequently came back onto ICE's radar.
On the same date, the NYPD Central Booking in Brooklyn, New York, received an immigration detainer from ERO New York City regarding his release.
Sanctuary cities, such as The Big Apple, do not typically cooperate with ICE detainers, which request that local law enforcement notify ICE before releasing a migrant from custody and keep them in custody until ICE can take custody.
On Sept. 6, 2023, ERO Miami cancelled Pavon's Alternatives to Detention (ATD) due to alleged violation of the program's conditions.
On June 24, 2024, Davon-Bonilla was convicted of assault by the Kings County Supreme Court.
On Sunday in Brooklyn's Coney Island, a 46-year-old woman was allegedly forcibly raped at knifepoint by Davon-Bonilla and an accomplice.
An immigration detainer was filed with the NYPD Central Booking in Brooklyn for the alleged rape suspect, Davon-Bonilla, who was arrested by the NYPD.
After the alleged crime, John Chell, the NYPD's chief of patrol, voiced his anger over the city's sanctuary city status.
In an X post after the event, he contended that migrants such as Davon-Bonilla arrive in the U.S. not in pursuit of a better existence, but to prey on city residents.
While many individuals from around the world flock to NYC in pursuit of the American Dream, a select few have different objectives, such as committing crimes and exploiting the city's residents. Daniel Davon-Bonilla is one of these offenders.
"What is the timeline for modifying our sanctuary city laws to enable us to inform federal authorities about the deportation of noncitizens who have committed violent crimes?" Chell inquired. "Inaction allows individuals like Daniel Davon-Bonilla to continue harming women in our city."
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and ICE did not provide a comment when Planet Chronicle Digital reached out for one.
