One person was killed in an active shooter situation at Army base Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia, on Saturday, officials announced.
On Saturday, the base announced a lockdown via social media to its over 110,000 residents, which took effect shortly before 9 a.m. local time.

The Army base stated that the victim was shot in on-post housing and subsequently passed away.
The base, previously known as Fort Gordon, stated that details about the individual who was shot would be made public after the next-of-kin is notified.
"The safety and well-being of our residents, including our Soldiers and Families, is our top priority during this time. We are currently providing support to the victim's family and assistance to anyone affected by this tragedy."
The suspect was apprehended and both local and state law enforcement are probing the occurrence.
