On Bourbon Street in New Orleans, a driver who was wearing an ISIS flag killed 10 people and injured many more after driving a pickup truck into a crowd celebrating the New Year, just days after a pro-ISIS outlet urged Muslims to wage jihad in the U.S., Europe, and Russia.
On New Year's Day at approximately 3:15 a.m., a tragic event occurred and the FBI identified the driver as 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar from Texas.
The suspect died after jumping out of his truck and exchanging gunfire with police officers, according to authorities.
On Wednesday, the FBI informed reporters that an ISIS flag was found on the trailer hitch of the vehicle belonging to Din Jabbar. The FBI is currently investigating his potential ties to the terrorist organization.
On Sunday, a pro-ISIS outlet on Telegram urged Muslims residing in the US, Europe, and Russia to carry out attacks on New Year's Eve.
Monotheists in Europe, America, Russia, and other lands of the Crusaders, we understand your desire to join your brothers in the land of Jihad, but the paths have been cut off for you. The Crusaders' security has been prolonged, and your brothers are being killed.
"It is time to remove the swords from their sheaths and tie the horses in their places, as Allah loves and is pleased with them. They are preparing for a feast of their polytheism, so turn their celebration into mourning and their happiness into a tragedy."
The outlet questioned Muslims, or "Crusaders," about their safety at home while their family members were imprisoned in detention centers and camps, then urged them to repeat the attack on their oppressors and follow in the footsteps of those who came before them.
"Be ready to pounce on opportunities and strike like a fierce lion, waiting patiently for your prey to come within your grasp. Do not falter or cower, and remember the words of Allah: 'Fight the polytheists all together as they fight you all together, so put your trust in God and repeat the days of terror against the Crusaders with killing, spite and torture.' As the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: 'An unbeliever and his killer will never meet in the Fire, so support God and He will support you, and be honest with Him.'"
