An Illinois man was saved after his tractor became trapped in a creek following a bridge collapse.
Over 30 minutes passed before first responders arrived to rescue the man, according to the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District.
On Sunday, a man's life was saved by first responders in Illinois after he was trapped under a tractor in a creek for approximately 30 minutes.
On Sunday at approximately 3:01 p.m., the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District reported that 10 units were dispatched to a water rescue in the 3200 block of N. Route 47.
A man was trapped under a tractor after a bridge collapsed on an unincorporated Woodstock property.
According to the department, the first unit arrived at the scene within four minutes, and the man was found at the rear of the property partially submerged in the creek, but conscious.
According to Woodstock Fire/Rescue's Facebook post, it is believed that he was trapped for more than 30 minutes before first responders arrived.
The man was rescued from under the tractor by firefighters, who then transported him to an ambulance that took him to a helicopter landing zone for medical transport to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The man, not identified, sustained serious injuries from the collapse and entrapment, and also suffered severe hypothermia due to water exposure, the department stated.
The creek was contaminated with fluids from a leaking tractor, prompting a minor Hazmat response.
To prevent the spread of fuel and other liquids into the waterway, absorbent materials were positioned in the creek.
The cleanup of the tractor from the creek was completed shortly after its removal at around 6 p.m., as per the department's statement.
