While authorities were responding to a truck on fire, a blast occurred just before 4 p.m., according to FOX 32 Chicago.
The cause of the fire and explosion is being investigated, with the working theory being uncontrolled combustion in a garbage truck hopper, igniting Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) tanks, according to the Arlington Heights Police Department.
The windshield of a fire engine and nearby homes sustained damage due to the blast's shockwave, which shattered windows, according to the police department.
According to FOX 32, three first responders sustained injuries from flying debris and a "post-blast concussion."
None of the injuries were deemed life-threatening.
