An EMS vehicle was hijacked by a Florida man who then took it for a joyride, resulting in a crash. The man has now accepted a plea deal.
Had McGall not accepted the plea deal, he could have been sentenced to life in prison.
A man from Florida pleaded guilty after his joyride in a stolen emergency vehicle ended abruptly when he crashed it and led police on a multi-day search.
On Thursday, Gregory Brian McGall, 36, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
If the 26-year-old had not agreed to the terms, he would have been sentenced to life in prison for his March 22 crimes in Tampa, Florida, according to prosecutors who spoke at a hearing in Hillsborough County Court.
An American Medical Response (AMR) Chevy Tahoe carrying emergency personnel was involved in a crash on March 22 at approximately 2 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
A pickup truck that was reportedly stolen was crashed on the interstate by the driver, who was later identified as McGall.
Allegedly, McGall leaped into the AMR vehicle and sped away during the probe.
The HCSO pursued McGall, who was seen driving a carjacked vehicle in a high-speed chase, in dash camera footage.
While driving recklessly, McGall accidentally folded a laptop in half and tossed it out the window, causing it to break.
The abrupt end of the joyride occurred when McGall collided with a grassy fenced field, according to authorities.
Authorities discovered the vehicle after McGall fled the scene following the crash, according to the FHP.
Authorities spotted McGall, 42, driving a silver Nissan Altima on March 26, which had active warrants.
At a gas station, the police apprehended McGall and Skidmore. Officials stated that the two fugitives tried to flee, but they were quickly detained.
Sheriff Chad Chronister praised the deputies' efforts in capturing the two suspects who were sought for grave offenses.
"The successful arrest of two individuals wanted for serious crimes is a testament to the dedication and coordination of our specialized units," Chronister stated. "Their diligent efforts ensured the safety of our community, and I commend the Auto Theft Unit and all involved for their outstanding work."
McGall was charged with criminal mischief, aggravated assault, grand theft of a motor vehicle, and carjacking.
Skidmore was accused of evading law enforcement, attacking them with a deadly weapon, and possessing drug paraphernalia.
