An emergency order has been approved to shut down an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, due to its infestation with gangs.
The Lowry apartments have been a hub for Tren de Aragua gang activity.
An apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado, was ordered to close immediately by a judge due to a surge in crime and the presence of migrant gangs.
On Friday, City Judge Shawn Day ordered the temporary closure of the Edge at Lowry apartment complex due to a perceived immediate threat to public safety. The decision came after city officials filed a petition against the apartment complex's owner, Five Dallas Partners, LLC., last week.
City officials say the closure isn't expected to move forward for several months, despite the order.
An affidavit from Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain was included in the city's petition to shut down the apartment complex, citing a series of violent crimes that had occurred there.
Chamberlain wrote that the Edge of Lowry Apartments is a hub for unchecked violent and property crimes committed by a criminal element that has established dominance and instilled fear among its residents.
Authorities claim that a significant amount of criminal activity is linked to the violent Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA).
On Monday, nine individuals suspected of being gang members were charged with offenses related to a violent home invasion, kidnapping, and robbery that occurred at the Edge at Lowry complex in December.
On Monday, the Aurora, Colorado Police Department made nine arrests related to an armed home invasion and kidnapping that resulted in two victims being seriously injured.

At the Edge at Lowry Apartments in the Denver suburbs, a group of alleged gang members broke into a couple's apartment and violently attacked them, causing injuries that required hospitalization. The assailants also stole jewelry from the victims.
Initially, 19 suspects were arrested for their involvement in the "tortuous" kidnapping.
After being interviewed by investigators, three individuals were released and found not to be involved in the crime, according to police.
ICE was holding 16 remaining suspects.
Seven suspects who have not been charged are currently in ICE custody and are still being investigated, according to police.
