An assistant principal at a Virginia elementary school was charged with assault after a 5-year-old student returned home with bruises.
Assault and battery charges have been filed against Misty Kelley.
An administrator from an elementary school in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a 5-year-old student, as stated by law enforcement officials.
An Aug. 28 incident led to the charging of Spotswood Elementary School Assistant Principal Misty Kelley, 52, with assault and battery, according to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office's social media post.
On August 28, the sheriff's office learned about an incident at the elementary school involving a staff member when they received a report that a 5-year-old girl had allegedly been assaulted by Kelley.
Officials stated that the child's mother claimed her child displayed signs of bruising on the back and ribs upon returning home from school.
The child claimed that an adult at school grabbed her because she refused to walk, according to the mother's inquiry about the injuries.
The sheriff's office stated that Kelley, an adult, was found to have allegedly grabbed and injured a child during an investigation.
On August 28, the Spotsylvania County Public Schools central administration office was contacted by the sheriff’s office regarding a matter, resulting in Kelley being placed on administrative leave that same day.

Kelley surrendered to law enforcement and was released on bail after being reported by FOX 5 in DC.
