On Sunday night, a solitary masked protester against Israel caused a disturbance at the Democratic National Convention's welcome party at Navy Pier in Chicago, as seen in videos shared on social media.
""The Harris-Biden administration continues to fund Israel, which is a genocide," the protester declared after taking the microphone on stage."
Protesters were chanting "Free, Free Palestine" as they were being dragged offstage.
An Instagram post by anti-Israel group @directactions4palestine describes the video as a "disruption" and declares that "Gaza will be heard."
The Telegram messaging service is linked to the Instagram profile, with a thread titled "Shutdown the DNC."
More protests are expected to occur.
On Monday afternoon, a march against the Israel-Hamas war began in Chicago's Union Park, led by the Coalition to March on the DNC.
Up to the convention's final ceremonies on Thursday, at least five additional publicly announced rallies are scheduled to occur, according to FOX 32 Chicago.
On Monday, the United States Palestinian Community Network organized a demonstration in Union Park, while protesters gathered downtown on Sunday to advocate for LGBTQ and abortion rights, as reported by FOX 32.
"Chicago Police Department Superintendent Larry Snelling stated during a Monday afternoon presentation before the City Club of Chicago that people in the city of Chicago should not be afraid, according to FOX 32. He urged them to go about their day and do what they normally do, despite the potential disruptions in traffic. Snelling assured that there would be a lot more officers present to ensure public safety, and that high visibility of officers, bike patrol, and other measures would be implemented to maintain law and order."
