An American woman may be sentenced to prison in Europe for stabbing a migrant man who is accused of assaulting her.
Prosecutors claimed that the American woman did not intend to target the man's heart when she acted in self-defense.
In Germany, a 20-year-old American woman has been charged with murder after stabbing a migrant man at a train station, claiming he sexually assaulted her.
Last week, the Kaiserslautern Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the incident occurred at the Kaiserslautern Central Station in southwest Germany on June 29.
The prosecutor's office stated that the stabbing was preceded by the 64-year-old sexually harassing the 20-year-old by grabbing her buttocks, an exchange of words, and the 20-year-old opening a folding knife she was carrying with her, making stabbing movements in the direction of the 64-year-old.
"The 20-year-old, who was using the knife to attack the 64-year-old, was grabbed by the older man's arm. The 64-year-old then died within a few seconds."
The woman, an American, claimed she acted in self-defense and did not intend to harm the man's heart, but was still charged with causing bodily injury resulting in death.
The prosecutor's office stated that the charge of causing death through bodily injury requires only intent for the injury and negligence for the death's outcome.
The prosecutor's office has not identified either person in the incident.
"The U.S. State Department has confirmed that a U.S. citizen was involved in an incident at Kaiserslautern train station in Germany. While we cannot disclose any further details due to privacy concerns, we take our responsibility to assist U.S. citizens abroad very seriously and are closely monitoring the situation."
The outlet reported that the American woman may be sentenced to ten years in a German prison.
The U.S. State Department did not immediately respond for comment.
