An American teacher, who was pregnant, tragically fell to her death during a vacation abroad.
On Dec. 23, a 33-year-old pregnant California science teacher named Clara Thomann plummeted 164 feet into a gorge while hiking on the Grecian island of Crete.

On December 23, 2020, Clara Thomann, a 33-year-old woman, was declared brain-dead after falling about 164 feet into a gorge near Preveli Monastery in Rethymno, Greece. She sustained multiple fractures to her head and chest, and her unborn child also died in the fall, as reported by local news service Nea Kriti.
On December 29, the science teacher from Santa Barbara, who taught at Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, was declared deceased.
According to a statement from Chania General Hospital, the woman's family decided to donate her organs, including her liver, kidney, and corneas.
Clara's injuries were too severe and she was declared brain-dead, leaving her family devastated.
"Clara was passionate about assisting and instructing others, and her family is proud to share that she has already donated her heart, liver, and pancreas for transplant."
According to the Los Angeles Times, Elliott Finn had been traveling with Thomann.
Bill Woodard, the principal of Dos Pueblos High School, conveyed to Santa Barbara Noozhawk that there were "no words to express the sorrow we are feeling."
Woodard stated that Ms. Thomann was an exceptional teacher who was incredibly kind and passionate about science. She deeply cared for her students and her family. The loss of such a wonderful person is deeply felt by all of us.
