In a press release, the U.S. Marshals Service announced that they captured 20-year-old Deario Wilkerson on Monday, August 26, following a warrant for his arrest that was issued several months ago in connection with a fatal shooting in Memphis.
Authorities said Wilkerson was involved in the death of Troy Cunningham April 2.
Wilkerson had successfully evaded capture by law enforcement since the alleged crime.
The agency stated that the task force tracing his location found him in a Memphis residence.
Wilkerson was quickly apprehended by the agents.
The USMS searched the residence and found Wilkerson hiding in the attic, but he fell through the ceiling while trying to escape.
Wilkerson was not injured in the fall and was arrested without any further incidents, officials stated.
In May, Jarius Hibbler and Tamarius Barron were arrested, making them the first and second suspects in Cunningham's death, with Wilkerson being the third suspect arrested.
The Shelby County District Attorney's Office announced that police were responding to a disturbance at an apartment complex when they heard a series of gunshots.
Upon discovering the gunfire, police found Cunningham lifeless on the sidewalk with a head wound from a gunshot.
