After learning that Trump was safe following the second assassination attempt, lawmakers and family members reacted.
'Again, folks! Shots fired...' said Donald Trump Jr.
The news that former President Trump was unharmed after gunshots were heard nearby while he was playing at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach prompted reactions from lawmakers, family, and others.
Secret Service agents rushed Trump to safety after shots were fired at him while he was playing the fifth hole at a golf club. The FBI later determined that the shots were fired by Secret Service agents at a man carrying an AK-47 in what appeared to be an assassination attempt. Steven Cheung from the Trump Campaign communications team issued a statement after the event.
No further details are available on whether President Trump is safe after gunshots were fired in his vicinity, according to Cheung.
Donald Trump Jr. replied with the phrase "Again folks!" in reference to the July 13 attempted assassination of his father at a rally in Butler, Pa.
""An AK-47 was found in the bushes at the Trump Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida," the younger Trump stated."
Trump Jr. also said a suspect had reportedly been apprehended.
The Trump War Room tweeted about the safety of the former president, which was retweeted by Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
""Graham stated that he recently spoke with President Trump and described him as one of the strongest individuals he has ever met. According to Graham, Trump is currently in high spirits and is more determined than ever to safeguard the country," said Graham."
The White House also issued a statement about the situation.
"The former President was golfing at the Trump International Golf Course when a security incident occurred. The President and Vice President have been informed about the incident and are relieved to know that the former President is safe. They will be kept updated regularly by their team."
Rep. Anna Paulina, R-Fla., accused the "radical left" of consistently branding Republicans and Americans who desire a secure and affluent nation as "threats to democracy."
This irresponsible rhetoric is causing people to get hurt. I just had to report my opponent's supporters for soliciting strangers to send threatening packages to my home. She has refused to condemn this and her supporters for doxing me," Paulina wrote. "This election is absolutely one of the most important elections in our history. We cannot bow down to intimidation, violence, and persecution. We must stand strong and bring home the win this November.
She stated that our family is praying for President Trump due to the immense responsibility he has undertaken.
Sen. Rick Scott expressed gratitude to God that Trump was safe, and he and his wife are thankful to the brave law enforcement officers who responded.
On Sunday evening, Chuck Schumer, the Senate majority leader, disclosed that he had received information from the acting director of the Secret Service regarding the second attempt to assassinate Trump.
"Former President Trump's safety was ensured by the Secret Service due to their prompt reaction, as Schumer wrote on X. No place for political violence exists in this country, and the perpetrator must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, as Schumer stated."
Hakeem Jeffries, the House Minority Leader from New York, agreed with Schumer, stating that "political violence has no place in a democratic society."
The FBI is now investigating the shooting as a second attempted assassination, according to a joint statement released by two members of the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, Chairman Mike Kelly, R-Pa., and ranking member Jason Crow, D-Colo.
"The Task Force is monitoring the attempted assassination of former President Trump in West Palm Beach this afternoon. We have requested a briefing with the U.S. Secret Service about what happened and how security responded. We are thankful that the former President was not harmed, but remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in all of its forms. The Task Force will share updates as we learn more."
On Sunday, the attempted assassination of Trump was learned about by Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., who then released a statement.
"I am grateful to hear that President Trump is safe following today’s reported assassination attempt in Florida. I join in thanks for our hardworking law enforcement officers working to keep President Trump, his family, and his team safe. However, we must ask ourselves how an assassin was allowed to get this close to President Trump again? There continues to be a lack of answers for the horrific assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, and we expect there to be a clear explanation of what happened today in Florida. Thankfully, God continues to watch over President Trump. As Americans, we must unite behind him in November to protect our republic and bring peace back to the world."
