A man, 71 years old, embarked on a trip to the California wilderness and never returned, prompting a search.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office reports that Michael Moore obtained a wilderness permit to hike towards Powell Lake in the Emigrant Wilderness, Sonora, California.
On Saturday and Sunday, Moore's dog and backpack were discovered on trails that were not part of his planned route.
At the trailhead, a silver Toyota Corolla owned by Moore was discovered by police.
Police described Moore as being approximately 5-foot-6 and 128 pounds, with shoulder-length gray hair and a gray beard.
He was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, an unknown color of shirt, and cut-off denim shorts.
The Sheriff's Office stated that search-and-rescue personnel were searching the area for Moore and requested anyone with information about his location to contact them at 209-533-5815.
