A TikTok influencer from Florida was apprehended by police for allegedly pilfering $500 worth of merchandise from a Target store.
The suspect was found by the Cape Coral Police with the help of an anonymous tip.
A Florida Target was robbed of approximately $500 by a TikTok influencer last month, according to police.
Police officers were dispatched to the store located at 1890 NE Pine Island Road in Cape Coral.
On Oct. 30, 2024, a woman entered the store and stole several discounted items.
The woman at the self-checkout register scanned a false barcode with cheaper prices, according to police.
Just over $500 worth of miscellaneous household goods and clothing were stolen, consisting of 16 items.
The police department shared the suspect's photo on Facebook and Instagram to aid in identification.
A TikTok influencer with nearly 300,000 followers was identified as a suspect by an anonymous caller who saw the post.
The video of Velez wearing the same outfit and glasses as the suspect seen on Target's video cameras was found by officers in her account. It showed her picking out items inside Target and placing them in her car on the same day as the reported theft.
On Oct. 30, Target accused Velez of stealing items. The Cape Coral Police concluded that Velez was the same suspect and arrested her for one count of petit theft.
