A Texas teenager is accused of murdering their rival's show goat out of jealousy.
Willy, a 6-month-old baby, was allegedly killed by Aubrey Vanlandingham, 17, through force-feeding him a toxic pesticide.
A show goat belonging to a rival competitor was killed by a teenager in Texas, resulting in a felony charge.
A report from CBS Austin stated that an arrest affidavit revealed that 17-year-old Aubrey Vanlandingham, who participates in livestock shows with her own goat, allegedly confessed to poisoning Willy, a younger competitor's goat.
On Oct. 23, Vanlandingham was accused of using a drench gun to force-feed Willy a toxic pesticide inside the Vista Ridge High School's barn facility, ultimately killing the 6-month-old goat, according to the outlet. Security footage allegedly showed the goat trying to escape the encounter.
During a two-hour period, the teenager allegedly visited Willy twice and then contacted the rival competitor's mother to inform her that the goat was not doing well.
Willy passed away in his owner's arms within 24 hours of experiencing convulsions and respiratory distress, according to CBS Austin.
According to the arrest affidavit, Vanlandingham allegedly confessed to killing her rival's goat because she believed the 15-year-old was "a cheater." Previously, she had attempted to kill Willy but was unsuccessful.
Phosmet, a pesticide used for controlling external parasites in livestock, led to Willy's death due to organophosphate intoxication.
The DailyMail reported that the mother of the 15-year-old girl stated that Vanlandingham does not seem to show any remorse.
She stated that it is bizarre and that they want justice served, not just a slap on the wrist. They want her to be punished and feel that she doesn't think she will be. She needs to take responsibility for her actions and go to jail to receive mental help.
CBS Austin reported that a police investigation into Vanlandingham's phone uncovered evidence that she searched for information on lethal doses of bleach for animals and poisoning methods, as well as "how to clear search history."
The mother of the 15-year-old determined that Vanlandingham's alleged crime was driven by jealousy, not infidelity.
""Goat showing is so transparent that cheating is impossible, which is why jealousy arises," she said to DailyMail."
In Texas, where cruelty to livestock animals is a felony punishable by up to two years in prison, Vanlandingham was charged with this offense. On November 22, she was arrested and released on a $5,000 bond the same day, according to jail records.
Her court date is set for Jan. 15.
