A Texas man was apprehended for suspected dog theft and murder.
Allegedly, 12 dogs were killed by Stuart Duncan Hammonds during arguments with his girlfriend.
In Texas, a man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty for adopting pets and then allegedly killing them.
On Oct. 3, the Bowie County Sheriff's Office received reports of several missing dogs from local homes. One of the callers claimed that a suspected dog thief resided in the area.
Deputies visited the home of Stuart Duncan Hammonds and his girlfriend in the Simms area. KSLA reported that they detected a foul odor, which they believed to be from decaying animals.
Seven animal carcasses were discovered near the house and barn, with 12 of the skeletal remains identified as dogs. Some of these dog skeletons showed signs of head trauma, suggesting they may have been shot.
The sheriff's office stated that they believe Hammonds killed four dogs during a fight with his girlfriend, and a witness confirmed that he killed all twelve dogs.
Charged with 12 counts of cruelty to non-livestock animals, Hammonds' bond has been set at $100,000.
Hammonds allegedly stole dogs from neighbors but also adopted some animals through social media.
