A Texas homicide suspect was fixated on a coworker and killed her due to her 'prolonged' work breaks, according to police.
An obsession of the Texas suspect was admitted to detectives, according to an affidavit.
A man suspected of a recent homicide in Texas was fixated on his coworker and believed her "long breaks" were the primary motive for the murder.
On Thursday, at an Allegiance Trucks office in Lewisville, about 30 miles north of Dallas, Travis Merrill, 51, was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing his coworker Tamhara Collazo at her desk.
On Thursday afternoon, Merrill shot the victim who had returned from a lunch break. Despite being rushed to a hospital, she passed away due to her injuries.
According to an affidavit obtained by FOX 4 Dallas, he ambushed her after she returned from lunch and fired the gun several times.
The court document disclosed that Merrill confessed to being "fixated" on the victim and was constantly thinking about the breaks she took at work. The suspect admitted to closely monitoring the days and duration of Merrill's breaks.
The document stated that Merrill became increasingly angry with Collazo's unauthorized long breaks and lack of attention towards him, leading to his obsession with her.
Merrill's concerning behavior was reported to the company's human resources department by Collazo, who got wind of it. As a result, the suspect was ordered to seek counseling before returning to work.
Merrill informed police that Collazo shunned him at work following her report, which enraged him. As a result, he purchased firearms and disclosed to police that he had brought the guns to work multiple times.
According to FOX 4, Merrill stated that the victim had "inflicted him with pain, and he desired her to experience the same, so he purposely planned to shoot her in front of everyone at work."
The Lewisville office of Allegiance Trucks is closed following the shooting, and the company has released a statement expressing its devastation over the incident to FOX 4.
Allegiance Trucks announced that it is supporting the victim's family and its employees who were unharmed in the incident, and has closed its Lewisville office indefinitely. The company is also collaborating with law enforcement during their ongoing investigation.
"Our company, unfortunately, has become part of the expanding national community of workplaces impacted by gun violence, and we request the community's support."
The Lewisville Police Department and Allegiance Trucks were contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for more details.
