A man from Tennessee is being charged with shooting at a family sledding in the snow, claiming that the family was trespassing on his property.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office has charged Benjamin Cook with six counts of aggravated assault in connection with a shooting. Further charges may be filed following the investigation's conclusion.

On Friday, the sheriff's office stated that deputies were dispatched to the 6300 block of Stoney River Drive in response to a report of a man shooting at a family of six who were playing outdoors in the snow.

According to deputies, preliminary information from the scene indicated that the parents and their four children strolled down the street to go sledding down a hill in their neighborhood.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., the family reported hearing gunshots coming from a house near the 10400 block of Birchwood Pike. The mother stated that she saw snow fly up from the ground just a few feet away from her one-year-old son.

The family yelled at Cook to stop shooting, even though he claimed they were on his property. The family denied being on his property.

Before reporting the incident to authorities, the family first gathered their belongings and went home.

Cook was seen in pictures obtained from a neighbor walking through the woods with a black rifle slung across his back. Deputies spoke to him at his house after responding to the shooter.

Cook was then arrested on aggravated assault charges.

A probe found that the family was not present on Cook's land when he started firing.

Several rifles were discovered at Cook's residence during a search warrant execution.
