An individual from South Africa who unlawfully entered the U.S. was apprehended in New York City after a "positive match" on the terrorist watchlist.
The South African national, who was initially detained in Texas for criminal trespassing, was later released.
A "positive match on the terrorist watchlist" was discovered through a further investigation, as stated by Owens.
The suspect's positive identification as being involved in terrorism prompted a rapid multi-agency effort to apprehend the individual in Brooklyn, New York. However, it is uncertain when or how the suspect arrived in New York City.
"The coordination of various agencies led to the apprehension of this potential threat, which is currently awaiting removal," he stated.
