A shoplifter killed a beauty store owner while attempting to steal from the business.
Florida shoplifters accidentally kill Ilson Miriam Kim, 64, leaving behind 2 daughters and a husband.
A beauty supply store owner in Florida was reportedly killed by shoplifters, leaving behind her family just weeks before Christmas.
On Dec. 6 in the evening, two thieves attempted to rob Beauty Max store in Jacksonville, Florida. However, Ilson Miriam Kim, 64, tried to stop them, resulting in her unfortunate death when the shoplifters ran her over with their vehicle.
"According to Sgt. Steve Rudlaff of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, two people entered a business. One of them took several items and fled the store with them. A store employee followed the individual to their car, which was waiting for them."
According to Rudlaff, at least three suspects were involved in the crime. Two of them entered the store and one drove the getaway car. One of the suspects got into the car with the stolen items, while the third suspect left on foot.
Despite being hit by a vehicle, Kim was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, she did not survive.
According to Action News JAX, Kim's husband stated that the store had been dealing with a persistent shoplifting issue. However, a nearby business owner claimed that this time, the victim took matters into their own hands and pursued the suspects.
"Her family stated that she worked alongside her husband for most of her life, but Beauty Max was her first independently owned business. The reason for her confronting the shoplifters is unclear, but the store had experienced thefts in the past."
Someone stole from the store the day after Kim's death, her family added.
According to an online obituary, she immigrated to the United States from Uijeongbu, South Korea, in 1986 "in search of better opportunities."
"Ilson was a proud mother, wife, businesswoman, and store owner, as stated on her family's fundraising page. She instilled in her daughters the importance of hard work, persistence, empathy, and love, and embodied these values in her daily interactions with others in her community."
"The Kims are a strong, proud family, but now they must learn how to navigate life without Ilson, who was a true matriarch."
The investigation is still ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
