A Republican governor manages to save a choking man during a Lobster Roll eating contest.
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu performed a choking rescue on stage during a contest.
On Sunday, Gov. Chris Sununu of New Hampshire acted quickly to rescue a man who was choking during a lobster roll eating contest.
At the Hampton Beach Lobster Roll Eating Competition in Hampton, New Hampshire, Sununu observed a contestant on the stage pounding his chest while consuming the renowned New England delicacy.
Sununu told WMUR-TV that he could tell quickly that the gentleman at the far end was having trouble getting something down, as he took a pause before continuing.
Christian Moreno, the contestant, stated that the governor was the first to recognize he was choking.
Moreno said, "My counter joked about getting the Heimlich from the governor and said nobody else could say that. I looked at him and thought, 'That was the governor.'"
The governor said that jumping in to help during the contest was surprising, and what happened after clearing Moreno's windpipe was even more astonishing.
"He went straight back to the contest, which I couldn't believe. He ate another seven lobster rolls after that," Sununu told the outlet. "Right down the gullet."
Moreno said he plans to return to the contest next year for redemption.
