A man in Las Vegas was arrested by the FBI for allegedly extorting Instagram users following his boastful comments on a podcast.
No Jumper podcast host states that it's much more sinister than they could have ever imagined.
Last week, the FBI arrested a Moroccan national who boasted about his social media scamming scheme in a podcast interview, leading to an investigation against him.
Idriss Qibaa, formerly known as "Dani" or "Unlocked," was arrested at his Las Vegas home and is facing federal charges related to two criminal felony counts filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Nevada.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, he is accused of violating interstate communications laws by making violent threats through text messages to two victims and their family members.
"Adam22, the host of the No Jumper podcast, was astonished when he found out he was in the same room with someone capable of doing that, according to Planet Chronicle Digital. He stated that it was far more sinister than he could have ever imagined."
Qibaa ran a website called Unlocked4Life.com, which was still active as of Monday. He promised to unlock clients' social media accounts. However, Qibaa admitted to locking down the accounts to extort people out of thousands to get their access back.
He proposed to artificially increase users' views or followers for a fee, collect personal information on others for clients, and ban other users on their behalf.
Qibaa, who was interviewed by Grandmaison, stated that he has over 200 individuals paying him monthly for account maintenance and claimed to make more than $600,000, as per the criminal complaint filed in Nevada's district court.
Qibaa stated on the podcast that his only option was to reveal his illegal business model, even though it could lead to his death.
"Qibaa stated in a January interview that he wanted people to truly comprehend what was happening. No one had discussed it, and no interviews had been conducted on the topic. He exclaimed, "F--- it," Qibaa said. "If they want to take over my account, they can't do it to me like a cockroach.""
According to the criminal complaint, the brazen hour-long interview led the feds to discover that the alleged extortionist was targeting more than just social media accounts. Investigators found a number of victims, including a realtor, dentists, businessman, journalist, and influencer, and quickly realized the extent of the extortionist's activities.
It is claimed that Qibaa caused harm to victims and their loved ones by destroying their property and threatening to kill them.
According to the criminal complaint, Qibaa threatened to harm the daughter, fiancé, dog, business partners, and their families.
A California dentist who previously treated the victim's last employer was accused of hiring Qibaa to target the victim's Instagram account, which was subsequently locked.
Someone named "Unlocked" contacted her and sent over 2,000 text messages, eventually threatening to reveal her Social Security number if she didn't pay $20,000.
The documents reveal that in another incident, he went to a victim's house, picked up a rock from the driveway, and smashed the windshields of a white Bentley and white Mercedes-Benz, which were caught on security footage.
Grandmaison expressed satisfaction that his interview with the alleged extortionist helped in any way to remove Qibaa from the streets.
Grandmaison, who has interviewed singers and rappers like Usher and XXXtentacion, stated that he has spoken with all walks of life in the underground world for his podcast, including "dudes who were hit men, serious drug traffickers, pimps and prostitutes."
A criminal complaint stated that his interview with Dani, who went by "Unlocked," was particularly noteworthy.
When discussing illegal behavior with a rapper on a podcast, there is always an unspoken understanding that the topic should not be discussed openly. If the rapper attempts to address the issue, they will typically do so in a subtle or coded manner.
"However, this individual astonished me by appearing open to discussing the intricacies of his enterprise. You're wondering, 'Why would you willingly reveal this information?'"
"I was taken aback that he was willing to reveal so much of this information," he added.
Qibaa started threatening Grandmaison after the January interview.
"The host stated that nothing like this had ever happened to them until they communicated with a certain individual. This person threatened to reveal their emails and claimed they could stop their car while they were driving it. However, everything that the individual threatened was impossible."
Despite not being a citizen, Qibaa resided in the U.S. legally, as per the allegations against him.
The FBI stated that Qibaa has declared on multiple occasions that if he experiences any law enforcement pressure or is arrested and released, he will return to Morocco and live a lavish lifestyle.
Qibaa's attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
