A man from California who had been missing for 25 years was recently discovered to be a registered sex offender.

In April of this year, a California man who had been missing since 1999 was identified by his sister when his picture was printed in a USA Today article. However, the joyous discovery revealed disturbing details.

Marcella (Marcie) Nasseri's long-lost brother, Tommy Manizak, is a registered sex offender who was convicted in 1993, according to the Lassen County Sheriff's Department via USA Today.

Manizak served three years in county prison, Capt. Mike Carney said.

According to reports, Manizak was believed to have been fingerprinted, but it was later discovered that this never occurred, hindering the police's ability to identify him.

A call was received by the LCSO from Nasseri, stating that she had received the article and believed the man in the article was her brother, who had been missing for 25 years.

The sheriff's office confirmed that Manizak had been admitted to a hospital in the Los Angeles area. Kennemore later learned that the man had been transferred to another hospital in July.

The police ran his fingerprints through the database and found him in the 1993 sex offender listing.

"Carney told USA Today that he believed the suspect was uncooperative during the fingerprinting process. Despite being informed that the suspect was unable to walk and communicate, Carney is unsure of what transpired."

Manizak, who registered as a sex offender in Lassen County, failed to register in his new location, according to Carney.

According to Carney, after going to Oregon, his family claims that he became a free spirit who simply drifted aimlessly.

Despite being aware of the new information about her brother's actions, Nasseri remains happy to be reunited with him, describing his behavior as "disgusting and reprehensible."

"Despite everything, Nasseri stated, "At the end of the day, he's still my brother, and I won't abandon my family ties." He emphasized, "I love him, and after searching for 25 years, I've found that the other distractions don't matter. He's my brother, and I love him.""

Nasseri stated on her GoFundMe page that she is far away from her brother's location and needs assistance until a medical transfer is possible as he is learning to do everyday things again.

In Lassen County, I am 600 miles away from Lynwood, California, where he is located. I have initiated a possible medical transfer to a facility in Lassen County. Although he has learned to walk, eat regular food, and is non-verbal, I do not have the funds to cover the expenses we need. As a result, I am mailing him used men's clothing, a set of pencils, and a scratch pad because he loves to draw. This is all I can send at the moment.
