A man found with a loaded shotgun on a DC Metrobus was arrested for fare evasion, police said.
An allegedly stolen loaded gun was found on Gerald Evans in Prince George's County, Maryland.
According to the Metro Transit Police Department, a man arrested in Washington, D.C., for not paying the Metrobus fare was found to be carrying a loaded shotgun.
On Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., a 30-year-old man named Gerald Evans was confronted by plain-clothes bus enforcement officers after he allegedly boarded an X2 route bus without paying.
Evans was arrested after refusing to provide identification when officers tried to give him a citation for fare evasion.
During the arrest, a loaded shotgun was discovered concealed beneath Evans' clothing.
Evans was accused of multiple offenses, including possession of a prohibited weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of unregistered ammo, being a fugitive from justice, and evading fare.
The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority used Evans' arrest as an example of enforcing fares.
According to FOX 5, the gun discovered on Evans was reported missing from Prince George's County, Maryland.
An open felony warrant for theft was reportedly issued for him in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.
In November, the Metro Transit Authority announced that it would be intensifying its enforcement of bus fare evasion after previously stating that approximately 70% of riders do not pay for their trips.
