A Louisiana woman is facing charges after leaving her child on the roadway and falsely reporting a kidnapping, police said.
Police claimed that Artasia Viges, 24, left her son unattended on a major roadway while changing a flat tire, despite her report of kidnapping.
Last week, a Louisiana woman was arrested for falsely reporting the kidnapping of her young son, according to police.
On November 5th at approximately 1 a.m., Artasia Viges, 24, contacted authorities to report the alleged kidnapping of her son near U.S. 190 and Industrial Road in Eunice, as stated by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office.
On the roadway, Viges was changing a flat tire when her son was taken by individuals in an older model truck.
The sheriff's office stated that when deputies arrived at the scene, they quickly learned that the little boy had "abrasion injuries to his knees" and was found alone in the parking lot of Heinen Medical Clinic.
A child, whose age was not specified, informed police that his mother "ran him over" and abandoned him on the roadside. He was subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention.
The sheriff's office dispatched juvenile detectives to investigate the significant discrepancies in the statements made by the child and his mother.
The sheriff's office stated that a later interview with Viges uncovered the terrible truth, which was that the young boy was not kidnapped but was left unattended on a busy road and "allowed to run off in the night."
The sheriff's office stated on Facebook that a disagreement between a mother and a child escalated into a bizarre reaction after the child had a tantrum.
The sheriff's office observed that Viges' son was not properly restrained when he jumped out of the car before it stopped, resulting in injuries to his knees.
According to allegations, Viges claimed to detectives that she did not attempt to pursue her son and she "eventually lost track of him."
Viges is accused of mistreating young people, abandoning children, and lying to endanger public safety.
She is in the St. Landry Parish Jail on a $200,000 bond.
