A Louisiana mother was involved in a fight with students after being allowed into school.
No staff or administrators were present to halt the fight, as stated by a student.
A fight broke out at a school in Louisiana when a mother entered the building through a side door and confronted other students, witnesses said.
According to WAFB, the fight occurred at IDEA Bridge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at approximately 7 a.m. on Aug. 22 while students were waiting for classes to begin.
The Baton Rouge Police are investigating an altercation that occurred, and charges are yet to be filed.
According to WAFB, Police Corporal Saundra Watts stated that a mother entered the school through the door near the gymnasium and later got into a fight.
Student Jah'n'que Brown stated that she was defending herself against the other student, his sister, and his mother in the incident.
"She's threatening her and saying, 'Let's go outside and fight, come on, we're gonna fight,' stuff like that. Like, you know, just threatening her, and then everything just starts popping off. And I get hit," Jah'n'que told WAFB.
Yakisha Brown, mother of Jah'n'que, expressed her worry about her children's safety at school after a fight occurred.
Brown expressed his belief that the situation involved many lives and was unfair, stating, "It's just not right."
No staff or administrators were present in the room to intervene in the fight, as stated by Jah'n'que.
"Jah'n'que said that nobody was in the gym, neither teachers nor administration, even though they were supposed to be there to watch and supervise them."
She continued: "We remained there for approximately five minutes. Although students attempted to halt it, there was no administration present."
The mother was removed from school grounds after the school officials responded to the fight and defused the situation.
"Rebecca Suarez, the school communications director of IDEA Bridge, informed WABF that there was an incident at their campus. A physical altercation involving a parent occurred, according to the reports received."
"Duty personnel and administrators were able to [resolve] the situation and remove the parent from the campus. All students and staff are safe. The campus partnered with local law enforcement in the investigation."
Brown stated that the fight should not have occurred and urged the school to implement modifications to the security and safety procedures.
"When my child goes to school, I worry that her life is in their hands," she said. "The fact that no one was there during the incident makes me extremely worried. We cannot afford any mistakes; the wolves could have should have but didn't, which doesn't exist today due to the current state of the world."
The main door is the only entrance point allowed for visitors on the IDEA Public Schools website.
