A Long Island man was apprehended at a train station with a date rape drug after the discovery of a woman's body in a suitcase, according to police.
At New York City's Penn Station, a man from Huntington, Ronald Schroeder, was apprehended.
Authorities in New York City have apprehended a man with a date rape drug at Penn Station, following the discovery of a deceased woman inside a suitcase near a suburban Long Island apartment complex, according to officials.
At his arraignment on Saturday, Ronald Schroeder, 41, pleaded not guilty to charges of concealing a human corpse and possession of both methamphetamine and GHB, according to court records.
Last week, on Nassau Road in Huntington, 31-year-old Seikeya Jones was discovered with her wrists and ankles bound inside a suitcase, as reported by Newsday, citing prosecutors' courtroom comments. This occurred approximately 40 miles east of the city.
According to the paper, Schroeder, whose listed address is at an apartment building adjacent to the suitcase, did not appear in court due to an illness. However, prosecutors claimed that he gave a "detailed admission" after investigators allegedly encountered the scent of human remains in his home.
Jennifer Henry ordered Schroeder to be remanded without bail and he must return to court on Thursday.
According to ABC 7, Jones' family reported her missing on Aug. 16.
On Sept. 3, the Suffolk County Police Department stated that a 911 caller reported suspicious activity in the woods near the Huntington apartment building.
The suitcase was found by responding officers, and it was later determined that Jones was the victim through investigation.
Authorities reported that Schroeder was apprehended by Metropolitan Transportation Authority police at Manhattan's Penn Station at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday due to an outstanding drug warrant.
After being accused of possessing GHB, they were also charged with controlled substance possession.
As of Monday morning, the police had not yet disclosed the cause and manner of Jones' death, suggesting that additional charges may be forthcoming.
