A knife-wielding suspect is being sought by the NYPD in connection with three murder investigations.
Two women who were romantically involved with Vilmond Jean-Baptiste, 38, were suspected of being killed by him.
On Friday, a knife-wielding suspect was shot and killed by New York City police in Brooklyn, with the authorities stating that the man was suspected of three murders.
On Friday evening, officers from the Brooklyn Warrant Squad tried to apprehend Vilmond Jean-Baptiste, 38, but he allegedly attacked them with a knife, according to police. During the search of a Brooklyn apartment, Baptiste was discovered concealed, fully clothed, in a bathtub.
According to NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, officers discovered Baptiste in the bathtub with a knife and ordered him to leave. However, instead of complying, Baptiste advanced on the officers, prompting them to order him to drop the weapon.
At least three police officers opened fire on Baptiste after a stun gun failed to stop him, resulting in his death at the hospital.
According to the New York Daily News, one man shouted, "He shot my brother. He killed my brother for nothing," as a crowd gathered around the scene where police wheeled Baptiste into an ambulance.
Video footage from Planet Chronicle Digital depicts groups of people yelling and hurling items at law enforcement officers.
Three murders were linked to Baptiste, one of which involved a 54-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man whose bodies were discovered in the city in July. Both victims were stabbed to death.
In late August, Claudette Jones, 66, was discovered stabbed to death inside her apartment.
Joseph Kenny, the head of detectives, revealed to the Daily Mail that Baptiste was romantically linked to both female victims.
According to the Daily News, Johnny Jean-Baptiste, 44, the suspect's older brother, stated that their mother was present in the home when police fatally shot him.
"The elder brother stated that his brother didn't possess a gun. He believes that they could have handled the situation differently. He wants to view the body camera footage to understand what truly transpired."
According to reports, when questioned about the murder cases that Baptiste was accused of, his brother allegedly stated, "No one is flawless."
