A human head was discovered on a popular South Florida beach, and Miami-Dade police are now investigating the gruesome find.
The investigation into the cause of the decapitation is ongoing.
Authorities say a human head was found washed up on a popular South Florida beach on November 12th.
Reports indicate that the Miami-Dade police are currently investigating an incident that occurred on Key Biscayne, Florida, where a beach worker discovered the decapitated head of an individual behind the Key Colony II Ocean Sound condos on Tuesday morning.
CBS Miami reported that the police have not been able to identify the specifics regarding the head, including age and sex.
Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin informed NBC News that the reason for the decapitation is still being investigated.
Martin informed NBC that we have not been able to ascertain precisely how the head was detached from the body, but there are a couple of theories.
Miami-Dade and local authorities are waiting for additional information about the identity of the deceased. Martin suspects the remains are of an adult male but is awaiting confirmation, according to People Magazine.
"Martin stated that at this stage, no possibility is being ruled out, as it is yet to be determined whether this is an accident or a missing person case."
The medical examiner and homicide officials are working together to identify the deceased.
The incident is currently not being called a homicide.
