A Blue Cross Blue Shield agent in Florida is in custody after a woman threatened him during a call about a denied insurance claim.
According to Polk County jail records, Briana Boston, 42, was charged with making threats to carry out a mass shooting or an act of terrorism following a recording of her saying, "Delay, deny, depose. You people are next," as reported by FOX 13 Tampa Bay.
The Lakeland Police Department informed the outlet that Boston was upset about recent medical claims denials and used the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson as a threat to the company.
Boston allegedly admitted to making the threat and apologized when Lakeland officers visited her home.
She also told police she does not own firearms and is not dangerous.
According to an arrest affidavit viewed by FOX 13, Boston stated that healthcare companies "deserved karma from the world because they are evil" and engaged in games.
In New York City on Dec. 4, Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old Ivy League graduate, was arrested for allegedly murdering Thompson in cold blood. Days later, Boston was arrested.
The murder scene reportedly had shell casings with the words "delay," "deny," and "depose" written on them.
The response to Thompson's murder on social media has been divided, with some praising Mangione as a "hero" for pursuing the insurance CEO, while others condemned the use of violence.
After Thompson's murder, UnitedHealthcare removed the images and names of its executives from its website.
Other insurance companies, including some Blue Cross Blue Shield plans, and pharmacies have followed suit due to concerns about copycat actors.
