In Publix, a Florida woman was apprehended by police for leaving her grandchild alone in a hot car while she went shopping.

On Tuesday, Elena Grady, 63, was arrested at the Volusia County Branch Jail for neglecting her 2-year-old grandchild, who was found unattended inside a hot car in the Publix parking lot.

Jail records indicate that Grady was released at midnight on Wednesday after posting a $3,000 bond.

On Tuesday at 3 p.m., Volusia County sheriff's deputies were called to the Publix on Roscommon Drive in Ormond Beach due to a child being found alone inside a parked car, according to a Facebook post by the department.

The child seemed sluggish in the car, parked in direct sunlight with no shade, not running, and with the windows open.

The sheriff's office reported that the toddler was left in the car during a 91-degree heat index and was alone for 16 minutes.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office shared on Facebook a reminder about the rapid rise in temperature inside a car that's turned off. On a 90-degree day, cars can reach 120 degrees within 30 minutes and 138 degrees after 90 minutes.
