On Tuesday, Elena Grady, 63, was arrested at the Volusia County Branch Jail for neglecting her 2-year-old grandchild, who was found unattended inside a hot car in the Publix parking lot.

On Tuesday at 3 p.m., Volusia County sheriff's deputies were called to the Publix on Roscommon Drive in Ormond Beach due to a child being found alone inside a parked car, according to a Facebook post by the department.
The child seemed sluggish in the car, parked in direct sunlight with no shade, not running, and with the windows open.
Grady took custody of the child after the manager at Publix unlocked the car and brought the toddler inside to cool down.
Deputies found the child in good health after locating [Grady] who had left Publix, the sheriff's office stated.
The sheriff's office reported that the toddler was left in the car during a 91-degree heat index and was alone for 16 minutes.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office shared on Facebook a reminder about the rapid rise in temperature inside a car that's turned off. On a 90-degree day, cars can reach 120 degrees within 30 minutes and 138 degrees after 90 minutes.
The Volusia Sheriff's Office advised against leaving children, pets, or vulnerable adults in a hot vehicle, even for a short period of time, to prevent tragedy.
