A Florida man was arrested for physically abusing a child for nearly 30 minutes over a missing couch cushion, according to deputies.
Lance Rachel Sr., 42, was accused of aggravated child abuse and battery by strangulation.
Officials reported that a Florida man was arrested on charges of child abuse after allegedly screaming profanities and physically harming a child for approximately 30 minutes over a misplaced couch cushion.
Lance Rachel Sr., 42, was arrested for aggravated child abuse and battery by strangulation. He was taken into custody at the Osceola County Jail.
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office stated that the incident occurred on December 7th at a residence in Kissimmee, Florida, although it was not reported until after several days had passed.
The sheriff's office opened an investigation into the incident on Dec. 11.
According to the sheriff's office, Rachel Sr. was furious after a couch cushion was moved and she accused the child of being dishonest.
The sheriff's office stated that the suspect "maliciously" punished the child by screaming obscenities and physically abusing the child for 28 minutes.
The victim was assaulted with a belt over 50 times, choked, and subjected to derogatory language and other vulgarities, according to deputies.
According to deputies, at one point, the suspect threatened to fracture the child's jaw.
Some of the event was captured on in-home surveillance cameras, deputies said.
On Dec. 16, Kimberly Rachel, 35, was arrested and charged with failure to report known child abuse after confirming the incident during an interview with deputies.
