A Florida man is charged with assaulting women at a polling station due to their political preferences.
The three individuals were waving flags for their chosen presidential candidates.
On Tuesday, a man from Florida was apprehended for supposedly choking two women at a polling station due to a dispute over political candidates.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., a verbal argument between Stuart McMillan, 71, and two women over their political candidate choices escalated into an altercation, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office.
According to HCSO deputies, McMillan allegedly pulled one of the women's flags to the ground and grabbed her by the throat and hair. When the other woman tried to help, he reportedly grabbed her by the throat as well.
According to reports, Rep. Danny Alvarez, representing House District 69 in Hillsborough County, allegedly observed the confrontation.
While Alvarez, a Republican and Army veteran, held a flag supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, McMillan waved a Donald Trump flag.
According to FloridaPolitics.com, McMillan was accused of grabbing the throat of someone during a fight involving their flags.
Alvarez, who helped break up the altercation, reportedly said it looked like they were playing swords with flags.
Near the Palmetto Club at the Fishhawk Ranch polling location in Lithia, a Tampa suburb, an incident occurred where the victims and suspect were exercising their right to vote and freedom of speech.
"Our community values respect and comprehension, even when views differ," Sheriff Chad Chronister stated. "No room for violence in our community; anyone found guilty of disrupting the safety and civility of our neighborhoods in Hillsborough County will be held accountable."
McMillan was arrested and charged with two counts of battery.
In a deep red state, Hillsborough County had a narrow margin with Trump winning by just 20,660 votes (3.1%).
In the greater Tampa Bay area, Trump's victory in Hillsborough County was the narrowest.
