A driver under the influence of drugs critically injures a New York police officer while attempting to flee the scene during a traffic stop.

A man from Brentwood, New York was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) and causing a crash that severely injured a police officer, according to police reports.
Cody Fisher, a 29-year-old man, is facing charges of driving under the influence of drugs, assault, fleeing police, and reckless driving, according to court records.
At approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, a 2021 Ford Mustang passed by the westbound side of the LIE while Officer Brendon Gallagher was conducting a traffic stop.
The Mustang driver was pulled over by Gallagher, a member of the Street Takeover Task Force, after the officer activated his lights and sirens in response to the speeding vehicle.
Gallagher's patrol car was sideswiped by a Mustang driven by Fisher, who later lost control of the car.
Gallagher's patrol car flipped upside down after it crashed and flew off the highway.
A Mustang driven by Fisher veered off the highway and struck a light post, according to police.
An off-duty Nassau County Police officer who happened upon the crash reportedly stopped to help and eventually arrested Fisher.
Gallagher, who was in critical condition, was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital, while Fisher, with non-life-threatening injuries, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.
On Monday, he was brought before the First District Court in Central Islip and has entered a plea of not guilty to the accusations.
