A Connecticut man is accused of murdering a mother and her infant son due to a $400 debt for renting a car.
During a Monday court appearance, a judge ordered Lance Morales, 23, to be held on $5 million bail.
The Connecticut man, accused of multiple charges, is alleged to have killed the mother and her infant son due to the money the woman owed him.
On Monday, Lance "Macho" Morales, 23, made his first appearance in a Hartford, Connecticut, courtroom, and new details were revealed about his November arrest.
On Nov. 19, Morales was charged with murdering 20-year-old Jessiah Mercado and her 4-month-old son Messiah Diaz in a drive-by shooting.
According to The Associated Press, an arrest warrant claimed that Morales shot at the car the two were in because Mercado owed him $400 for borrowing his Mazda SUV.
She fell behind on the payments of the $100 daily rental fee for the vehicle.
An exchange occurred between Morales and Mercado prior to the deadly shooting, during which Mercado informed Morales that her infant son was inside the SUV. According to a witness, Morales responded by stating that he didn't care, as reported by the AP.
During the daring crime, there were two other individuals in the car besides the one who was injured.
According to the arrest warrant, it was believed that Morales' firearm was fully automatic.
Following the deadly shooting, a four-day manhunt ensued for Morales, culminating in his arrest in Puerto Rico on November 23. He was subsequently extradited to Connecticut on Saturday.
Morales has been accused of two counts of murder, assault, and other offenses, and could receive a life sentence without the possibility of parole if found guilty.
During Monday's court hearing, he was directed to remain in custody on a bail of $5 million.
