A California man attacked a pregnant woman with a flashlight, bit a man's hand, and attempted to kidnap a nursing home resident, according to police.
David Jonathan Margoliash, 48, is accused of felony burglary, felony assault with a deadly weapon, and felony attempted kidnapping.
A man from California was apprehended following accusations of breaking into a couple's home while they were sleeping, striking a pregnant woman with a flashlight and biting the husband's hand, and attempting to kidnap a resident in a nursing home.
David Margoliash, 48, has been charged with three felonies: burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted kidnapping. He is currently being held in Marin County Jail without bail, as per the San Rafael Police Department.
On Saturday at approximately 1 a.m., a man residing on Ross Street in San Rafael called the police, reporting that someone had entered his home through the back door and assaulted him and his pregnant wife before fleeing the scene.
The woman informed police that she awoke to a sound and discovered Margoliash in her living room, causing her to scream and wake up her spouse.
Margoliash struck her in the head with a flashlight, causing minor injuries. She managed to grab the flashlight and her husband got involved in a physical fight with the suspect to remove him from the house.
Margoliash was pushed down a flight of patio stairs by the man after biting his hand during the fight. He fell to the pavement and ran away.
The husband and wife were treated for injuries at a local hospital.
A K-9 unit from one police department and multiple other agencies searched for Margoliash, but initially they were unable to find him.
At 5:18 a.m., a call was made to the police from a skilled nursing facility on Fifth Avenue about a man claiming to be an employee of a transport service who wanted to take an elderly patient to Santa Rosa.
The facility's employees discovered that Margoliash had repeatedly entered and exited the facility, claiming to be a patient transport service employee. Despite their requests for credentials, he could not verify his claims. They concluded he was lying and stopped him from taking the patient. Margoliash then left the facility.
Two nurses remained with Margoliash and informed an officer nearby, who subsequently apprehended the suspect.
A suspect in the burglary of a couple's home and an attempted kidnapping of a nursing home patient was identified as Margoliash.
During his time in custody, Margoliash made several incriminating statements regarding his actions in both cases.
During Ramadan, Margoliash was arrested for dousing a mosque member with pepper spray at the Islamic Center of North Marin. He is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty.
