A California fire survivor posted a viral video of praying in burning street embers.
A storm chaser described standing in a fiery street as feeling like being inside an oven.
During the California wildfires this week, a Minnesota storm chaser who was inside a burning Los Angeles home described how his faith was his "instinct" as he prayed on the ember-filled street while escaping.
Tanner Charles Schaaf, who flew to Los Angeles to spend time with friends during the holidays, stated that God instructed him to prolong his trip by a few days.
"Schaaf told Planet Chronicle Digital that she prayed about it and felt the need to extend it, and the next day, the fires broke out."
Despite having pursued natural disasters for over 16 years, Schaaf stated that he had never encountered a wildfire as massive as the Palisades Fire.
He reunited with a friend residing in the LA region to assist him in collecting his possessions, as he anticipated substantial losses.
"We hosed down all the plants at his house because I noticed that the vegetation would catch on fire first, before the houses would. We were hosing down trees and the house itself, trying our best to make it as fireproof as possible."
He and his friend positioned themselves at the front and back of the house, each armed with hoses. They checked on each other inside and witnessed a hot ember ignite a nearby tree and fence in flames.
""The fence caught fire in a matter of seconds, and I knew we had to leave," Schaaf said, describing the horrific scene."
The video of the pair escaping from the home that Schaaf posted on social media platform X garnered millions of views.
"I'm sorry, Schaaf shouts in the video. We did our utmost."
He described hearing random explosions, comparing it to a war zone.
"Schaaf stated, "The embers were falling, the winds were howling, there was smoke, and explosions were heard. When the embers ignited things nearby, the sound was deafening. It was like being inside a giant oven.""
The two are briskly walking out onto the fiery street, and Schaaf can be heard praying over the neighborhood.
"In the name of Jesus, he prayed for God to protect this house and neighborhood, raising his hands toward the homes."
In the distance, his friend replies, "This tree will bring our demise."
Schaaf emphasized the significance of incorporating faith into all aspects of his life, particularly in situations where the outcome would have a lasting impact on others.
An older man, with young nephews by his side, refused to evacuate and remained hunkered down.
"Schaaf said, 'He's like, "Oh, we'll be fine. My house is fireproof,"' and I can't help but wonder if they really made it out. Taking time to pray is crucial, as I believe it has the power to shift many things in the world."
Schaaf stated that he asked God to demonstrate His power while pursuing storms. In response, God instructed him to pray during perilous circumstances.
"As I prayed, 'I pray this tornado dissipates right now in Jesus' name,' I saw tornados dissipate in front of me," Schaaf said. "You can find online evidence of this happening right when I was praying. So, during the California wildfires, it was instinct for me to stop and pray."
Although having viral videos is thrilling, his main priority was assisting his friend in escaping the flames.
"He said, "I love documenting the real experiences of people and how they look. It was just a coincidence that millions of people got to see it. I hope people are looking at it and can understand the seriousness of the situation. . . . My rise to fame is humbling. I'm just out here doing my best and trying to love people well.""
