A British woman was caught at Los Angeles airport with meth-laced T-shirts: police.
The 13 white T-shirts were reportedly found caked with an illicit drug.
At Los Angeles International Airport, a British university student was accused of trying to smuggle 13 methamphetamine-soaked white T-shirts.
Saakwa-Mante, 20, is accused of possessing illegal drugs with the intent to distribute, along with other charges.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Planet Chronicle Digital, Saakwa-Mante was caught at LAX on Nov. 2 attempting to smuggle methamphetamine to Australia.
The criminal complaint stated that customs officials discovered the contraband within the case after the individual checked onto her international flight to Brisbane, Australia.
The methamphetamine found in the suitcase was wet and had been packed into 13 white t-shirts under the lining. The rest of the contraband had crystallized into a powdery form, according to the criminal complaint.
The methamphetamine found in the white powder tested by officials weighed approximately 13 kilograms, or 29.7 pounds, when combined with the T-shirts it was caked on.
At her gate, Saakwa-Mante was stopped and questioned about the suitcase. She confessed that it was hers and that she purchased the white T-shirts from Target using Apple Pay. Additionally, she admitted to having receipts, as stated in the criminal complaint.
According to the criminal complaint, Saakwa-Mante informed officials that she was a university student residing and studying in the U.K. and was visiting the U.S. for two days. She stated that she was traveling to Australia to meet her boyfriend, whom she had never met in person.
She denied any knowledge of the white powder found on the t-shirts when questioned by officials.
Before arresting her, Saakwa-Mante's two iPhones were seized by officers as they escorted her to the bag screening area.
Planet Chronicle Digital has reached out to Saakwa-Mante's court-appointed attorney for comment.
