In Grand Canyon National Park, the body of a missing boater was found on Tuesday, resulting in the eighth death in the park in less than a month and the 16th fatality this year.

A 71-year-old man is believed to have disappeared while on a private boat trip near Lower Nankoweap Camp along the Colorado River, according to the National Park Service.

On Monday evening, the man's group contacted the park's communications center and informed them that he was missing.

A helicopter was used by park rangers on Tuesday to locate the body, which was approximately 10 miles downstream.

The death is being investigated by both the National Park Service and the Coconino County medical examiner's office.

Investigations are ongoing into the death of Patrick Horton, a 59-year-old resident of Salida, Colorado, who was found dead on the tenth day of a non-commercial river trip along the Colorado River over the weekend.
